Forgiveness
A man who shoots his best friend because he is being chased by a angry mob, does not deserve forgivness. It is still murder and and its still wrong. Even if he gains forgivness he will be punished and face the consequences. He already has the guilt of the murder I dont think having the disgust of everyone is going to help him out. I think that he should be forgiven and punished.

If the angry mob was also going to kill him anyways, why do you think the shooter would be punished by them? If you think about the case of George and Lennie in "Of Mice and Men" you might remember that George was not punished by Curley's gang.
